The man is saying "Hi." To someone named Jack, so is saying "Hi, Jack" which is construed as "hijack."
That's a good answer. However, I think it actually happened recently when a man with a French passport who pretended to speak no English to the flight crew said "Hi" to someone he recognized on the plane.
Or maybe I've been playing too much Balderdash.
